Why Healtheclips?

Posted in Announcements on 03.06.10

It’s simple, to discover and share interesting clips of health stories, articles, pictures, videos and more. The keyword here is “Health” .

Why is this so important?

We want to build a reliable online health resource  that provides a quick way to discover relevant sources of information about any health issue. And we want this resource built by people who care about the quality of health information found online and who are willing to share interesting clips of health resources they find on the net.

Why are we making this announcement?

We receive numerous queries from people who want to bookmark/share/submit any topic under the sun. Yes, we agree that your content about online dating, casino games, or stock picks are great but that’s not our focus for this site. There are several sites that will happily promote non-health related content, but here at Healtheclips, our focus is health and we will like to keep it that way.

So, the way we see it, the first submission criterion is that “It must be health related”.

Basic Features to Get You Started

Posted in Getting Started on 20.04.10

Healtheclips has a lot of features to help you engage with the community and enjoy your experience while doing so.

In this post we will try to explain how the basic features work. Feel free to skip this if you are already familiar with how social networking and/or social bookmarking sites work.

Submitting a Clip

This is, in our opinion, the most important feature because that’s how interesting clips get added to the community. Almost every other process depends on the submission process.

Submitting a clip is really simClick for a larger imageple. It is a 3 step process that begins by clicking on the submit a new story button found at the top of every page. You will be asked to provide a short description of the page you are submitting and a link to the page. at every step there will be clear instructions to help you.

We have an easier way for people to easily add clips of interesting sites that they find. To get this feature, you need to login to your account, go to your profile page and look for the title “Easy submission of new links” follow the instructions to add the submit button to your tool bar. So whenever you see some interesting clip, all you need to do is click on the healtheclips button on your tool bar and you’re on your way.

Voting and Burying Clips

These two features keep our community fresh, relevant and interesting. It’s simple. Users like you vote for clips they find interesting and they ‘bury” clips they find irrelevant, spammy, off-topic, or not suitable for the community. Stories or clips with many votes get more exposure while buried stories get reduced exposure and may be removed from the site.

This way the good stuff gets to the front page so people visiting healtheclips will see clips the community finds more important. Each category has its own front page for the most voted clips and the most voted of all these categories  make it to the front page of the site.

Commenting and Discussions

This feature is what makes our community lively. What is the benefit of having a community if there is no dialogue? Anyone can comment or discuss any clip as long as you are signed in to your account. Anonymous comments are not allowed. People can also “like” or “dislike” your comments. You can comment on any story by clicking on the “discuss” or “comments” link and typing your comments into the comments box. We hope you enjoy this nifty feature.

Sharing Clips With Others

Healtheclips makes it easy for you to share interesting clips with your friends on Facebook and Twitter. you can also send an email directly from our site to recommend a story to a friend you think may like it.  To share, click on the share link found below every story and a box (see image) will appear asking you to select either Twitter, Facebook or email. Click on your preferred method and follow the instructions.

These are just a few clips to get you started. In future posts we will showcase some other clips that you will enjoy using. Including features for power users like RSS syndication etc. As always we are welcome to receiving suggestions from you our valued users. Please contact us or leave a comment below.

Enjoy your Healtheclips experience.

As the title suggests, this will be a short post. It is for those looking for a short and sweet overview of what healtheclips is and what benefits they can get from using it. If you need more details please follow the links for more information.

What is Healtheclips?

Healtheclips is a place where people interested in health issues come to share clips of the best health resources, articles and news stories found on the Internet. We are the leading health focused social bookmarking community online.

What are the Benefits of Joining Healtheclips?

Among the many benefits, these ones stand out:

  • Health enthusiasts can get latest updates about any field that interests them
  • All of us can collectively rediscover the best of the best of health resources on the Internet.

How Does Healtheclips Work?

Healtheclips is like Digg but for Health. It works through the user generated, community driven publishing model.

For those who are not familiar with this system,  this is how it works.

  • Any member can submit clips of interesting health content, resources, and tools they find on the Internet.
  • If other members find a clip interesting or relevant, they vote it up. Clips that are found to be irrelevant are “buried”. That way “good stuff”  will rise to the top while the “not so good” stuff will stay at the bottom
  • Members can also comment on any clip they find.

Yes.  Anyone can join and it is FREE to join.
